Eddie, 74, passed away December 7th, 2010 at Life Care Center of Kennewick. He was born to Clarence S. Eckert, Sr. and Julie May Hunt-Eckert on September 23, 1936 in Denver, Colorado.

The family moved to Richland in 1943. Ed attended Richland schools and graduated from Columbia High in 1955. He married Patricia McKnight in September of 1955. Born to them are Diana, Don and Mary.

Ed joined the U.S. Army in February 1956 to February 1963, serving three years in Germany. He received a Good Conduct Medal and the Army Occupation Medal-Germany.

On May 26, 1963, Ed and Nancy Jacobs were married at the Christian Church in Kennewick. Born to them are Robert and Jefferson. They celebrated their 47th anniversary with a family dinner. They attend Bethel Church in Richland.

Ed joined the Kennewick Fire Department in September of 1963 and achieved the rank of Captain; retiring in 1980. Ed also owned Ed’s Underground Sprinkler from 1967 to 2007.

Some of Ed's favorite things were hunting treasures at St. Vincent's, Goodwill, and Columbia Industries, making friends of everyone. His hobby was a good game of poker at the local casino. His qualities were honesty, integrity, and a good sense of humor. He was a loving husband, father, uncle and friend.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Julie Eckert, brother Gene Eckert and sister Shirley Eckert Eakman ('56).

Survivors are his loving wife, Nancy, sons: Robert & Sandy Eckert, Jeff & Nicole Eckert of Kennewick, and Don Eckert of Nebraska; daughters: Mary & Jeff Johnson, Diana Fischer of Kennewick, and Bobbie Eckert of Nebraska; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Brother Marv Eckert of Kennewick; aunts & uncles Norman & Donnamae Eckert of Kennewick, and Don & Dottie Eckert of Boulder, CO; brother-in-law Mickey Eakman & Marcia; and numerous nieces and nephews in the Seattle area.

Funeral Services were held Monday, December 13th, 2010, at 1pm, with viewing from 9am until service time, at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, Kennewick.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at The Chaplaincy, 2108 West Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336 in Ed's name.
